Olympic sailing

Olympic sailing: Paris 2024 results and LA28.

Olympic sailing has 10 events across boards, dinghies, skiffs and a multihull. Los Angeles 2028 keeps the same equipment used at Paris 2024 in Marseille.

The 10 events

World Sailing manages sailing at the Olympic Games. National authorities such as US Sailing train, select and manage their own Olympic and Paralympic athletes. The program for Los Angeles 2028 has 10 events, each using the same equipment as Paris 2024:

DinghyMixed dinghy470
SkiffMen's and women's skiff49er and 49erFX

Two equipment notes. In May 2022 World Sailing voted to keep the kite, mixed 470 and Nacra 17 events, rejecting proposals to replace kiteboarding and drop the Nacra 17. And from January 2025, iQFOiL sail sizes changed: men moved from 9 m2 to 8 m2 sails, and women from 8 m2 to a new 7.3 m2 design.

Paris 2024 (Marseille): results

Paris 2024 sailing was held at Marseille Marina, and kiteboarding made its Olympic debut there. World Sailing says 19 nations won medals across the 10 events, more than the 18 at Beijing 2008.

A few results stood out. Stefano Peschiera's bronze was Peru's first Olympic sailing medal, and Max Maeder's bronze was Singapore's only medal of the 2024 Games. Reading down the gold column, the Netherlands, Italy and Austria each won two sailing golds. World Sailing's own review of the regatta says the Netherlands topped the sailing medal table, with two golds and two bronzes.

Los Angeles 2028

World Sailing published the LA28 program and schedule in November 2025.

Dates
Sailing runs 16 to 28 July 2028, inside Games dates of 14 to 30 July 2028. Earlier coverage gave the Games dates as 21 July to 6 August; the November 2025 schedule replaced those.
